Who We Are
Klamath County Fire District 1 (KCFD1) is an all-hazards fire and emergency services agency serving South-Central Oregon. We are committed to protecting life, property, and the environment through professional, timely, and compassionate service.
What We Do
KCFD1 provides a full range of emergency services, including:
Our team responds 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ready to meet the needs of our community and those traveling through it.
Our People
Our strength is our people. KCFD1 is staffed by highly trained professionals dedicated to service and continuous improvement.
Our crews work a 48/96 shift schedule and operate out of four stations staffed around the clock.
Supporting operations is a leadership and administrative team that includes a Fire Chief, two Deputy Chiefs, Division Chiefs for Fire Marshal and Training, a Deputy Fire Marshal/Community Risk Reduction Coordinator, and seven civilian support staff.
Our Culture
At KCFD1, we take pride in delivering exceptional service but what truly sets us apart is our culture. We have built a strong team environment where professionalism, accountability, and support for one another are the standard. It’s a place where people come not just to work, but to be part of something bigger.
Our History
Fire protection in the Klamath Falls area dates back to 1903, when two rival hose companies merged to better serve the community. The City of Klamath Falls Fire Department was officially established in 1905.
As the area grew, so did the need for fire protection beyond city limits. The Suburban Volunteer Department was formed in 1946 and became a rural fire protection district in 1947, eventually expanding to serve the surrounding areas.
In 1992, the City of Klamath Falls Fire Department and Klamath County Fire District 1 entered into an agreement to merge. Voters approved this merger in November 1994, forming the organization we know today.
Over the years, KCFD1 has continued to grow with the community, including the addition of new fire stations and expanded services.
EMS Leadership
In 1998, KCFD1 became the ambulance service provider for the District and surrounding areas after acquiring the service from Merle West Medical Center (now Sky Lakes Medical Center).
Today, emergency medical services are a cornerstone of what we do. Our personnel deliver high-quality, advanced care every day, and we are committed to continually strengthening this critical service for our community.
Looking Forward
KCFD1 remains focused on the future, investing in our people, improving our service delivery, and adapting to the evolving needs of our community. We are proud of our history and even more excited about where we are going.
