Board of Directors

Klamath County Fire District 1 is  governed by a five person, elected Board of Directors, all of which must live within the boundaries of Fire District 1.  The Board is responsible to represent the citizens of Fire District 1 and to govern and set the policies that determine how Fire District 1 functions.  The Board employs the Fire Chief, who is the CEO of the organization and is  responsible to assist the Board in their duties and to implement the  policies of the Board.


The Fire Chief reports directly to the Board, and has a diverse set of responsibilities.  He assists the Board in policy development, implementation, and adherence, and also is responsible to ensure that the services provided not only meet the community’s needs, but also follow legal,  ethical and nationally recognized standards.

The Board of Directors of Klamath County Fire District 1  has established a three-member Civil Service Commission. By the terms of ORS Chapter 242, Commission members are not Board members or District employees. Rather, all Commission members are independent individuals appointed by the Board for an uncompensated four-year term.


The Commission meets every quarter. If there is no business scheduled for the Commission, the quarterly meeting may be postponed until there is business for the Commission to transact. Regardless of the above provision, the Commission shall meet at least once during each fiscal year.

  •  Working cooperatively with the Board of Directors and Fire Chief to maintain a current list of all classifications and grades of Civil Service positions within the District, 
  • Overseeing proper administration of all Civil Service exams, maintaining current entrance and promotion registers, and working cooperatively with the Fire Chief to certify qualified candidates for Civil Service position vacancies as outlined in these Rules, 
  • Working cooperatively with the Board of Directors and Fire Chief to maintain a current database of all employees holding Civil Service positions within the District. 
  • Adopting and overseeing proper administration of the Rules relating to conducting Civil Service examinations and making appointments, promotions, demotions, transfers, reinstatements, suspensions, and discharges for Civil Service positions.
