Klamath County Fire District 1 is establishing hiring lists for single role (non-firefighting) Paramedics. A complete application packet and detailed job description can be downloaded below. Completed application packets must be received no later than 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 14th, 2021. KCFD1 will hold testing April 21st.
Personnel selected for the position(s) will be scheduled to work a 56-hour (48/96 shift) after completing our new hire academy. The eligibility lists will remain in effect for 12 months or until exhausted. Once the final eligibility lists are established, KCFD1 reserves the right to choose the candidate(s) that meet the department’s needs at the time of an actual opening(s). Selected candidates will be conditionally offered a position by license level (Paramedic). Based upon need and individual’s qualifications, the District may consider lateral transfers of EMS personnel to Firefighter.
Klamath County Fire District 1 (KCFD1) EMS personnel work under progressive standing orders administered by an Emergency Medicine Physician. Our paramedics and EMTs respond to over 5,500 emergency calls annually from KCFD1 fire stations during their shift (no posting!).
KCFD1 EMS personnel transport patients to Sky Lakes Medical Center, a Level 3 trauma center in Klamath Falls, and periodically transfer patients from Sky Lakes to higher levels of care outside Klamath County. We have an excellent working relationship with surrounding EMS and air medical agencies.
We operate 3 newer front-line Type I 4x4 and Type III Braun NW ambulances each equipped with Stryker power cots. We will institute new equipment this year including video laryngoscopes and LifePak 15 cardiac monitors.
EMS personnel are represented by IAFF Local 890. IAFF Local 890 recently negotiated a 3-year contract with the District. It provides represented employees with District funded benefits including 100% District funded medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families plus very competitive wages.
KCFD1 provides opportunities for continuing education, tuition reimbursement, and opportunities for advancement. KCFD1 EMS personnel may be eligible for preference points in future firefighter hiring processes based on employment length.
