At Klamath County Fire District 1, training is more than a requirement, it is part of our culture. Our Training Division is committed to developing highly capable firefighters, engineers, EMTs, paramedics, company officers, and future leaders through hands-on, realistic, and progressive training opportunities.
KCFD1 responds to nearly 10,000 emergency incidents annually across a wide variety of environments and call types. Because of that demand, training happens daily throughout the organization. Crews regularly participate in company-level drills, EMS training, multi-company evolutions, driver/operator development, live fire training, wildland operations, leadership development, and scenario-based exercises designed to prepare personnel for real-world emergencies.
Through our partnership with Klamath Community College, KCFD1 personnel have access to a modern 2.3-acre regional training facility that includes a four-story fire tower and dedicated space for hands-on fire, EMS, rescue, driver/operator, and wildland training. This partnership continues to strengthen regional training opportunities while helping provide realistic and progressive training cultures for our personnel and partner agencies.
The Training Division oversees recruit academies, EMS continuing education, driver/operator training, wildland certifications, Blue Card command training, OSHA compliance, and ongoing operational readiness programs. Members have opportunities to participate in regional and in-house courses, advanced EMS education, leadership development, and simulation-based training environments.
We are committed to maintaining a modern and progressive training culture that emphasizes operational readiness, professional development, accountability, and continuous improvement. Training is designed to challenge members at every level while preparing them for the demands of today’s fire and EMS service.
Division Chief of Training Gary Denney often describes training as the foundation of the organization:
“Training is the foundation of everything we do. When we invest in our people, we strengthen our ability to serve the community with professionalism and expertise.”
“A strong training program doesn’t just build skill… it builds confidence, accountability, trust, and experience on the fire ground.”
As KCFD1 continues to grow, the Training Division remains focused on expanding regional partnerships, enhancing training opportunities, modernizing delivery systems, and preparing personnel for the increasingly complex challenges facing the fire service. Our goal is to continue building a strong culture of training, leadership, and professional development that supports both our members and the communities we serve for years to come.
