Mobile food unit - fire & life safety

Welcome to the Klamath County Fire District 1 Mobile Food Unit (MFU)Fire & Life Safety Page

Section 319 of the Oregon Fire Code requires all new and existing mobile food units and food cart pods, including those with a plan of correction, to be in compliance with Section 319 by January 1, 2025.

Why Should Mobile Food Unit Operators Be Concerned About Fire and Life Safety?

Not all mobile food units are the same. Many contain equipment that can create fire hazards and become unsafe under certain conditions. In 2022, a new section was added to the Oregon Fire Code that addresses the fire and life safety issues associated with mobile food units, specifically, “mobile food units equipped with appliances that produce smoke or grease-laden vapors”.

Annual Inspection & Permit

An annual inspection will be performed by Klamath County Fire District 1 and upon a passing inspection, a permit will be issued and placed in a visible area on the exterior of the unit.

The annual inspection and permit fee is $50 and covers:

  • Code Education
  • Plan Review of New Mobile Food Units
  • Annual Inspection
