Klamath County Fire District No. 1 is considered a Rural Fire Protection Special District under Oregon Revised Statute Chapter 478. Because of this designation, Fire District No. 1 is a standalone entity and is not part of the City of Klamath Falls or Klamath County Government. Fire District No. 1 is solely responsible for all the Administration of the personnel. This includes responsibilities such as payroll, benefits, and human resources. In addition, the Fire District must oversee its own budget, provide all Information Technology support for the six fire stations, and maintain and track all required training for the personnel. Administration is also responsible for ambulance billing.
I was hired by Klamath County Fire District No. 1 in 1988 as a Firefighter/EMT. Previously I had volunteered with the Fire District and was a paid firefighter with Medford Fire and Rescue. I moved up through the ranks of Captain, Division Chief of Operations, and in 2014 was promoted to Fire Chief. I am responsible to our elected five member Board of Directors to ensure that Fire District No. 1 provides professional emergency services that meet our community’s needs.
I am currently a member of the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. I serve as the President of the Klamath County Fire Defense Board. Additionally, I represent Fire District No. 1’s interests at the 911 Advisory Committee, Klamath County Interoperable Communications Group, Klamath County Cohesive Fire Strategy Work Group, and the Klamath Community College Public Safety Training Center Partnership.
I was hired in 2000 as the Fire District No. 1 Finance Officer. I am responsible for payroll and employee benefits administration, budgeting and financial reporting, and accounting. I belong to the Oregon Fire Service Office Administrators and the Society for Human Resource Management.
Jennifer graduated from Appalachian State University in 1990 with a BSBA in Health Care Management. She moved to Klamath Falls from Cleveland, Ohio in July 2018 and began working with KCFD1 in August 2018. Before moving to Oregon, she worked as a Human Resources practitioner in North Carolina and Ohio. Prior to HR, she was a Medical Social Worker/Case Manager and served in both public and private organizations.
I started with Fire District No. 1 in April of 2017 as the Administrative Assistant - Finance/Office Clerk. I provide administrative assistance to members of the Fire District both internally and externally. I also process accounts payable, oversee the Highway Assist program, am the Secretary/Treasurer for Klamath County Fire District No. 1 Foundation, and assist with administrative duties for Klamath/Lake HazMat Team 4.
I joined KCFD1 on May 1st and brought with me extensive experience in office administration, property management, and medical records. I moved from the Beaverton area to Klamath Falls in 2004.
My greatest joys are my daughter Sarah who is a retail manager, my son Derek who is a USMC police officer, and my 5 year-old grandson Liam. Liam and I enjoy planting the spring garden together and it is reported he already has his construction equipment digging trenches in the garden beds and relocating worms and bugs.
I am very excited to be a part of KCFD1 and to work with the Klamath Falls community.
